South Pole Inn

​Tom returned to Kerry in 1920.
He opened a pub called the South Pole Inn, which is still open to this day.
​
He lived a quiet life with his wife Ellen and his children.
Tom died on July 27th in 1938
and is buried close to Annascaul.
​
Across from the South Pole Inn in Annascaul, is a memorail park dedicated to Tom.
A plaque with details of his expeditions can be seen.
There is also a statue of this brave man who is often referred to as the forgotten or Unsung Hero of the Antarctic.
